Who are covered under the SSS?
Compulsory Coverage
Coverage of Employees
a.
A private employee, whether permanent, temporary or provisional, who is not over 60 years old.
b.
A household-helper earning at least P1,000 a month is compulsory covered starting Sept. 1, 1993.
A household-helper is any person who renders domestic services exclusively to a household such as driver, gardener, cook, governess, and other similar occupations.
c.
A Filipino seafarer upon the signing of the standard contract of employment between the seafarer and the manning agency which, together with the foreign ship owner, act as employers.
d.
An employee of a foreign government, international organization or their wholly-owned instrumentality based in the Philippines, which entered into an administrative agreement with the SSS for the coverage of its Filipino workers.
e.
The parent, spouse or child below 21 years old of the owner of a single proprietorship business.

The employer is given only 30 days from the date of employment of employee to report the person for coverage to the SSS thru the SSS Form R-1A (Employment Report).

Chuseok - A Korean Holiday
On September 22, Chuseok will begin in Korea. This is a major harvest festival and a three-day holiday in Korea celebrated on the 15th day of the 8th month of the lunar calendar. Like many other harvest festivals, it is held around the Autumn Equinox. As a celebration of the good harvest, Koreans visit their ancestral hometowns and share a feast of Korean traditional food.
